Google Research has developed a cutting-edge AI model capable of recognizing the vocalizations of eight distinct whale species, including various call types and the newly identified "Biotwang" sound from Bryde's whales. By converting audio recordings into spectrograms for classification, this AI system has successfully labeled over 200,000 hours of underwater recordings, enhancing our understanding of whale ecology and migration patterns.
